Rock Creek Resort
Old Piney Dell restaurant and bar evolved from a homesteader’s cabin built in the 1920’s. In the 30’s it was used by local ethnic groups as a community and cultural center for music and dance from the old countries.
It was first opened as a restaurant in the early 40’s. Back in the mid 60’s Pepi Gramshammer, Anderl Molterer and Eric Sailer, all former world renowned ski racers, started the Red Lodge International Ski Race Camp up on the Beartooth Pass.
It was the best ski camp available and attracted 100’s of racers from all over the country each summer. Every year they brought in internationally famous coaches that were either current or former top world cup racers. Early on one of the challenges was feeding and housing all the racers. Initially arrangements were made throughout town. However, Pepi then bought Old Piney Dell restaurant and bar in the late 60’s (then called OPD resort ranch) in order to be able to feed the hungry racers. Then he built the Grizzly Condos in 1975 to house the racers, which was the true beginning of what has become Rock Creek Resort today. We now sit on about over 30 acres on both sides of beautiful Rock Creek with 5 buildings and 87 rooms with over 6500 sq. ft. of conference space accommodating groups up to 300 for meetings, weddings and banquets.
